Glendale booked their place in the Fenton Cup final after a
fine performance against East Londoners.
Despite a host of players missing and even those taking the field carrying
injuries, the performance which followed was extremely brave and hard fought.
Having started well, the Dales went close on a couple of occasions as the
forward line of Andy and JT kept the home defence on their toes.
Against the run of play, East Londoners took a fortunate lead as a mix up in
communication at the back presented the easiest of chances to roll the ball
into an empty net.
The recovery was terrific and the Dales dominated the rest of the half and got
a deserved equaliser when Gavin Hayes pounced on a loose ball just inside the
box fire home.
The second half began with East Londoners on top and they twice went close to
regaining the lead, first when a scramble saw the ball go close to crossing the
line and then a terrific shot from 35 yards which crashed back off the bar.
But as the half wore on, the Dales got the winner they deserved as Dave’s left
foot lob was clawed onto the bar by the home keeper only for Ricky Reeves to
pounce on the rebound and send the Dales to a second consecutive Wadham final.
