Glendale
hosted Premier Division title chasers Chingford Athletic in this East Ham
Memorial Cup quarter final tie at a windy Clayhall Park this weekend.
It was clear early on that the conditions would play a major part in the match
and so they did with both defences struggling throughout the game with the gale
force wind.
Despite the adverse conditions, the Dales should have been ahead early on as
Alf got on the end of a flicked header to go clear but could only skew his
effort wide of the post.
That was most worthy chance of note in the first half as the Dales defence
battled hard to keep their goal intact.
After the break, the game was more even although Chingford were guilty of poor
play in the final third when half decent chances were presented to them.
As the game grew older, the Dales just looked more likely to nick a winner and
that they did as Hilly's free kick was headed back across goal where Dan Parker
met it with a thumping header that gave the keeper no chance.
The lead could have been extended when Danny Harding's sparkling run ended in a
wicked shot that was stopped by the visiting stopper.
The referee's whistle was blown to signify a safe passage to the semi final
where we will more than likely meet old rivals Castle United who have since
moved on to pastures new, up the ladder to the Olympian League.
