kingston goal not enough to prevent first defeat

The Sunday team faced its second friendly of the campaign facing a Castle United side defeated comprehensively by the first team three weeks ago.

A pre-match downpour poor a rather soggy look on the match but created a soft a slick surface reminiscent of those you will find in around 3 or 4 months time!

Both sides started brightly and it the Castle keeper in action first saving a tame effort from close range. Castle looked spiritedly and played the ball around nicely but skipper Reeves marshalled his back line and Steve wasn't called into action very much at all.

Hilly should have given the side the lead when he got in behind but shot his effort over the bar from 12 yards.

Castle got the lead however when a slip in defensive presented a chance to the Castle attacker who rolled the ball into the net for 1-0. That was a tough pill to swallow on a spirited first half performance.

Jay, excellent on left with his wand of a left boot, then dribbled 30 yards but was excellently challenged in the box to prevent a goalscoring opportunity.

The second half was much better and Glendale looked the more likely to breakthrough as Jay started to run the game from the middle with Ryan also looking dangerous.

Hilly could have levelled once more, jinking between defenders but pulling his effort wide. Not long after however, the goal did come, Jay splitting the defence with his pass, Richard running on and being tripped by the keeper but the ball ran to Alan Kingston who levelled from a yard out for 1-1.

Castle then went back on the offensive in search of a winner but found an outstretched Keir Richardson laying on the goalline to block a certain goal with the follow up blazed against the goal post as they went within inches of scoring.

Jay then produced a terrific effort at the other end which was held well by the Castle keeper but moments later, a cross from the right gave the Castle player too much time and space to swivel and poke past Steve with minutes remaining.

Not long after the whistle went on a spirited performance against a good, developing young side with a lot of skill and speed.
