ashton edge past plucky dales

The Sundays were on the brink of a second league victory of the season only for a late Ashton revival to deny them the points in a topsy turvy encounter.

The Dales were impressive early on as the hosts struggled to cope with the pace of the front two, Sam and Hilly. Darren cracked an early effort just over the bar as the Dales got well on top.

Ricky went close twice as first a well blocked effort then a miss from 2 yards
prevented the Dales from opening the scoring. Hilly had a good goal ruled out for an errant offside call as Darren pulled his cross back for Hilly to poke home.

Another goal was ruled out when Greg got his nut onto a throw and it sailed past the keeper only for the whistle to be blown again for Hilly standing in an advantageous position despite not touching the ball. The goal did come eventually though with Hilly was fed through and a left foot finish making it 1-0.

Ashton could have been on terms before the break against the run of play
breaking clean through but for Scott to tip an effort onto the post and the Dales held firm until the break.

The second half started very similar and more chances arrived again for Hilly, Darren and Sam but as the half wore on Ashton began to come back into it. They got level with a free kick that missed everything except the back of the net with 15 minutes to go.

The Dales were then reduced to 10 men and Ashton then broke the heart of the Dales to steal a winner with just a couple of minutes to go and win the game 2-1 in a game they should never have taken anything from.
