rampant dales storm into last 16

The second competitive fixture  of the season saw the Saturday side travel to Dagenham to face an FC Barolle side sitting top of the league and unbeaten, in a Fenton Cup tie.

With the Dales missing over half their side, they called on club stalwarts Stuey Greenhill and Glen Shirley to make up the side.

The Dales started much the stronger side and applied early pressure but fell behind to an unfortunate own goal as Troy Sargeant rolled the ball into the net past stopper Shirley.

As quick as this goal had come about, the sides were level as Hilly fed goalie Sayers, playing on the field as a makeshift Kevin Davies, and Salmon Sayers drew the sides level with a clinical finish.

Less than five minutes later the Dales were ahead as a long throw fell to Danny Harding on the edge of the box and he slotted the ball home to make it 2-1.

Scotty Jacobs was an inspiration on the left as he battled away and created a third goal as he ran into the channel and was tripped inside the box. JT stepped up to slot home and make it 3-1 with the break approaching.

The whole Dales side showed terrific endeavour to put the league leaders away and a fourth goal was scored before half time as another long throw resulted in the most obvious shove in the back ever seen in the penalty box and another penalty awarded. JT stepped up again to slot home and the Dales went into the break in buoyant fashion.

A goal either way would now settle the tie and it fell the way of the Dales as the move of the game was finished by Salmon Sayers, following a terrific passing spell which saw JT in behind his full back, squaring across the face of goal for Alf to bundle over the line.

FC Barolle then had their best spell of the game as they got a grip on proceedings but Shirley was never tested in the Dales goal.

JT rounded off his hat-trick with a lobbed finish with 10 minutes left as the keeper came racing out and with seconds to go, a limping Scotty Jacobs curled the ball around the keeper to make the final scoreline 7-1 and book a place in the last 16.
