borough win confirms 2nd round spot

The Dales travelled to Romford this week in a County Cup tie against Barking Borough of the Essex Business House League in a pulsatingly close fixture.

Both sides had chances in the opening half but it was Barking who took theirs, heading in from 10 yards to give their side the lead.

The match only really became interesting in the second half as the Dales battled hard to get themselves level which they managed to do with just 15 minutes left when Ryan Campen's header freed John Taylor who raced clear and squared for initially Hilly to strike but the resultant clearance came to Terry Copus who made no mistake from 12 yards to bring the sides level.

Five minutes later the Dales were ahead as JT unleashed a thunderbolt of an effort from an acute angle which appeared to have settled the tie only for a penalty to be conceded with less than five minutes to go which was converted.

Into extra time and the Dales were ahead early as Terry doubled his tally with a close range finish from a set piece but Barking got level again when a deflected effort nestled in the bottom corner.

However cometh the hour, cometh the hero once again as with literally moments to go in the last minute of extra time, JT found space on the right and slammed another effort into the roof of the net past the stranded keeper to confirm a place in the 2nd round.
